The Old Rectory Lodge is a quintessentially English cottage nestled in the rolling Dorset valley in the small hamlet, Chilfrome. The lodge is sandwiched between the River Frome which is just a stone’s throw away and an unspoilt valley that you can tromp for miles and not hear a car – just wildlife and bird song. It really is a little piece of heaven here!

The cottage is very traditional and was built just 12 years ago to a very high spec and in keeping with the Georgian Rectory which shares it’s rambling gardens with wonderful views across the fields. The cottage has 2 very good-sized bedrooms – a very comfy super king bed in the master room and a twin bedded room.
The master bedroom has French windows, and you can wander out onto the stone patio with your cup of coffee and enjoy the garden! There is also a dressing room attached to the main bedroom with a curtain partition and a comfy double sofa bed in it. The bathroom is shared with both bedrooms – although ensuite to the master bedroom. There is separate cloakroom in the hall, next to the twin bedroom. The kitchen is huge with fabulous well-equipped cupboards, an island, good sized fridge and an Everhot to cook on in the winter months or a normal cooker for the summer months. It has a wooden floor with underfloor heating.

There is a utility room with a Bosch washing machine, washing hanging space, 2 freezers and a large store cupboard. The sitting room is a lovely space with French windows onto the patio, it has two big comfy sofas and a very effective old fashioned gas fireplace. There is underfloor heating throughout and it is wonderfully warm in winter and cool in summer.

It is a perfect cottage for multigenerations – it is perfect for those with limited mobility, all being on one floor with 850mm door openings and a walk in shower.
For a family it is great, with the tennis court in the grounds, a stone’s throw from wild river swimming, glorious walks, a walk to the pub with a fabulous play park and just 20 minutes from the coast. For a couple it is quiet and romantic with gentle strolls in every direction – Mapperton Gardens are 10 minutes away and all the Thomas Hardy attractions within easy reach.
The cottage is easy to cook in and Nessie does provide home cooked meals if requested, to pop in the oven. Or if going out is more your bag there are some fabulous pubs nearby

Geographically we are very well placed to explore the whole of Dorset, we are just 20 minutes’ drive from the pretty seaside town of Bridport accessing the whole stretch of the Jurassic coast. Just 40 mins from Lyme Regis and just 40 minutes from Lulworth and all the fabulous attractions near there. We are also a mile from Maiden Newton which has a train line from Weymouth to Bath. We are 20 minutes from all the towns Dorchester, Yeovil, Beaminster and Sherborne (25mins).
There is masses to do and we have lots of books and brochures in the cottage. David and I are always happy to help and advise with any days out.

Thank you for a wonderful halfterm break at The Old Rectory Lodge. It has such a homely feel, we felt very relaxed there. Our boys loved hitting balls around on your tennis court. It was also a great base to explore Dorset - the tank museum and Seaton beach fossils being particular highlights. Thank you also for being so friendly and helpful. We had a lovely time.

We spent 3 memorable weeks here with our elderly Border Terrier whilst in between house moves. Everything about The Old Rectory Lodge was perfect. It is set in the most tranquil part of rural Dorset and sits alongside the charming hosts Nessie and David's gorgeous Rectory. The Lodge was extremely well equiped throughout with a very comfortable super king bed in the main bedroom and very large bathroom. All the linens and towels were of excellent quality. Nessie made the most delicious fruit cake we have ever tasted. We very much hope to return.

The Old Rectory Lodge is a gorgeous spacious and comfortable cottage, with the best ever kitchen fully kitted out for preparing a feast and beds comfier that any boutique hotel! It was a true joy to spend time there and even to entertain friends and family. We loved having use of the tennis court and exploring the river and surrounding hills and beautiful valleys. It’s an idyllic spot. Nessie and David made us feel extremely welcome. Nessie’s homemade pie and lasagne were to die for - the best we’ve ever tasted - and made our holiday even more of a relaxing treat. We’d love to come back.

What a beautiful place to stay. My father and I had lovely time. The house is wonderful and has everything you could possibly want. Nessa gave us wonderful suggestions for walks and nice local pubs to go to. If you have nice weather, make sure to take the valley walk recommended in the binder. It is stunning. We were sad to leave and will definitely be coming again.

We had a wonderful mini break at Nessie and David’s cottage this week. The cottage itself is absolutely gorgeous -very homely and beautifully done. It was also far bigger than we expected. The beds were super comfy and the kitchen had everything that you could wish for. The cottage was set in the most beautiful gardens, that we were able to use and we also enjoyed playing tennis on the tennis courts. Our dog Maisie had a great time too and loved pottering around the gardens. Nessie and David were great hosts and very friendly and helpful.

We had a fantastic stay at this gorgeous cottage. The weather was great which meant we spent a lot of time sitting on the lovely patio area enjoying the view of the garden and surrounding countryside. This was definitely a highlight as it is such a peaceful location. The cottage itself had everything we could need and was very spacious, cosy and comfortable. There are many lovely beaches within 30 minutes drive and some pretty walks in the immediate vicinity. Nessie was friendly and helpful and was able to recommend good places to visit. We would definitely stay here again!
